Air, the worlds first flying roller coaster opened in 2002 to welcoming
guests. Other roller coasters that claimed to be flying
roller coasters were actually 'lie down' roller coasters as
they left the station with riders on their backs. When riders
embark on Air they board in the seated position, much like
Nemesis, however before the train leaves the station, the train
tilts into the world famous flying position.
The
ride is located at the far end of the Forbidden Valley and can generate
very long queue times. The average queue time for Air is 90 minutes.
Air's duel loading system and three train set up helps capacity
but the queue line is still huge.
If you
wish to ride Air we recommend that you ride this first as the queue
can very quickly become over an hour.
After
all the checks on your train have been made, the lights turn blue,
the floor drops and the annnounements whisper around the platform,
"Prepare for Air, assume the position, now fly". With
this the floor drops and the train tilts. After leaving the station
you make a turn to the right. You then climb to the highest point
of the ride, above Nemesis' final turn. You take a dip to the right
before a steep drop to the ground. Smile for the camera before you're
taken back over the path and spun onto your back. You get quite
close to the ground before flying over the entrance of the ride
and returning onto your front. You take a dive underground and make
a helix over the heads of everybody before entering a barrel roll.
After the barrel roll, the ride goes out of sight, unless you're
in the car park as the final turn is near the parked cars. The train
enters the brake run and you return to the station.
Guests
must be at least 1.4m tall to ride Air and should try the test
seat before riding, if in any way unsure contact a ride host, the
last thing you want is to queue and then be told you can't ride. |
